protein drug help us live longer

I read study:fountain of youth for your heart? this was about a scientist that helped discover how the ageing of the heart leads to a earlier death and how protein could help is live longer by helping the fat go into the cells of your heart. I have to kind of wonder about this, I know the protein is used in your body for many different things such as other nutrients would be. But could a protein drug really improve your life that much? Did they simply get this idea from people that eat healthy food all the time live longer? And the test (done on a mouse) cant be all that accurate, first off it has different genetics then us and the test subjects used with the protein drug could have been much more active then the ones without it. Even with my speculations on this study I do think it to be rather useful compared to other studies i have heard scientist do like how four scientist took a couple months of a study just to find out a person can solve a rubix cube in ten minutes. To put it generally I think that this is one of the more useful studies for scientist and could be a very good one for mankind, if they can find a way to reverse the ageing of the heart they could also find out how to do it to the mind and the rest of the body which could keep people alive much longer then they currently are, could you imagine a world where you could keep your mind thinking like it does when you are a little kid? We would have a future were the worst IQ would be at the level of Einstein!

the worst relationship

I read 70 year in sex slave trial. This is seriously the most messed up article iv seen. I can hardly imagine how a person could act like this. And how a person could take it either. Out of every bad thing I have ever heard even on the news and online this is by far the most morbid. I find it terrible when people fight I think seriously that person deserved his punishment. There is no reason why people should ever act like that anywhere for any reason, and I believe that it dangerous to have people in our community like that period. I'm glad he got such a long punishment and they mostly only looked at the beating, not to mention he considered her a slave and did many other worse things to her in that time period. He also tried to keep a witness for testifying against him, if anything I think he should have had a longer sentence for breaking so many laws including one on the Constitution.

have emotional problems?

I recently read Sleep-deprivation causes an emotional brain 'disconnect' and to be truthful really scared me. My entire life I have not gotten enough sleep because I like staying up during the night. This shows emotion problems and higher chance of stress if people don't sleep and that seems a bit off to me because most people don't get enough sleep at night. I know I don't, but as the study shows the less sleep I get I become much more stressed angry and sometimes I get scared of really random things when I don't sleep. I also noticed it was right about body functions, if you ever stay up a long time you should try doing something that takes a lot of coordination like sports or video games you just cant do it as well. I think their test is for the greater good and overall very useful to show kids that don't like to sleep so that they go to bed earlier, but I don't think it's very important to have. I can understand things like this are what they study on so people know more but it seems like they could be researching on something more useful like diseases that need cures or other things that could help in making people and animals live longer. This study is useful but not all that necessary and I think they could work on something more important.

PLC

I recently read The Most Successful PLC this was about Samir Khan the blogged as news for North Carolina when blogging from his parents house on violent Islamic groups. This made me think about our personal blogs, well I know myself that only our teacher has looked at my blogs but it really got me wondering; if we used our blogs for other things like local news or as help information on certain topics would there be any chance of our blogs being looked at and commented by other people? Although we do show our own opinions on our blogs I don't think we are really so into it that random people online would check out what we have to say, not because our opinions don't matter but that we don't always say what people want to hear or want to know about. When we use blogger we do it to get our opinions and ideas out there to help us think for our selves instead of following the opinion of the general crowd so that we can be individuals, I think it's smart to have kids do things like this but they don't really spread their thoughts out there so them speaking on this would b like whispering in a crowd of a million people and planning on being heard.

seizure of cell phones

I read Phone searches spark protest. This article actually seemed useful it talked about how the taking of cell phones and reading messages was unconstitutional. The idea of people taking a cellphone and reading the texts on is actually kinda disturbing, that seems like a serious invasion of privacy and should not be tolerated by anyone. I can understand parent's doing it but a teacher or officer doing it seems a bit extreme to me, if you look suspicious or if they get tipped about you they should be aloud to search you but not read your conversations. Having people look through your items like that is unnecessary if you don't have anything on you then they shouldn't be able to check what your doing at home or after school. And to be truthful if they ever tried to check messages I leave friends without me saying they could I'd probably try to get them arrested. It's wrong and shouldn't be allowed, that's the same as being bugged twenty four seven. They don't need to read texts to know what your doing, smoking and marijuana leave a distinct smell and they don't need to read them. If they do it's to invading there are things that people generally don't need to know about you that they can find out while reading the messages on your phone, and probably a lot of private things you don't want them to know so I think that it is very wrong for them to even try.

for once i completely agree with a teacher

For my education blog this week i read More Thoughts On Filtering on the Fisch bowl. This is the first time a actually agreed with something a teacher commented on. I have always thought the filters on school websites a little bit extreem and they get really annoying sometimes. I also agree that the block on video sites like Google video and Youtube are unnecessary. They should at least allow certain videos aloud to be viewed just to make sure people can use the website but not watch anything profane. I think it should be the teachers decision what on the school computers is blocked since they are the people who monitor it not the district. I'll say this as an example but I tried to look things up on the human body for biology in 8th grade and every site I looked up it had block (it was really annoying since my computer was broken) and I had to go to another public library to do my homework. I don't know if the computers at Arapaho use the filter so harshly but that's how I will state my opinion, filtering of to many sites is annoying and it can make it really hard to do certain assignments, and since I'm sure a lot more people then me like getting homework done before they get home so they can hang out the filters can really be a problem. I do think that teachers should still block sites like myspace and game sites but Youtube and certain other websites we can use to help us in school and if their blocked then we cant use them, and a lot of times when we have to do simple assignments online for homework we wont do them at home because we forget. So I think at least they should unfilter websites if they would ask us to get on them or if they ask to go web searching so when we find a good site we could actually get on it.

SAFER

For my news comment I read Pro-pot group urges RB to join Broncos. This article was about a group called SAFER a group of people that want the government to pick pot over alcohol to get Ricky Williams to join the Broncos. Well I don't wanna say what this article is about but I kinda had to for my opinion on it. I have no doubt that alcohol is safer then pot if used in it's right amount. These people want pot over alcohol I mean seriously, pot is a poison to the body and can make you lose a lot of brain cells if used more then two times a month. The fact that they would prefer it over a drink that although can kill you is much more safe. Drinking is only really bad for you if your an alcoholic or if you dint have a designated driver. I have nothing wrong with people that do smoke pot I mean both drinking and pot probably have the same effect on you, people probably only do weed because it doesn't have the taste alcohol does. Either way it is a law that the person broke for that reason I don't think he should be aloud back in the sport after breaking it so many times.

AHS wirless connection

I read Two Steps Forward... on the fischbowl. Although I didn't really understand what was trying to get across on this it did make me think a little bit. The topic was about a wireless connection in school, although I know this will help the students out in school being able to find out teacher's off periods and a school map for new students wont it also effect the usage of electronics in the school? Wont it effect the number of student ditching, I mean seriously it might have the same amount of blocks that the school does but without teachers monitoring what their on they could still go to a lot of web sites that have nothing school related to them. And if there are some people that know how to get past the blocks (I'm sure there are a lot of them) whats to stop them from just getting on their ipods psp's and cell phones and just playing games during class. I'm not saying this isn't a useful thing for school but in my mind there seems to just be a lot of flaws with the idea. It did also talk about an override, I'm not entirely sure what that was about it didn't seem very clear on that part it could be for the entire connection or just a single student. If it were for a single student I think that it would be a good idea, like monitoring them and if they bend the rules like they have for the library could break their connection now that would be a great idea. But it still goes as I said above it's a good idea for people that use it for school but if people might use if for other things and it seems like kinda a big flaw to me.

seperation of church and state?

I read Boulder students protest pledge, under God.
Well while I was reading this article i actually again got a little mad. Even if you don't believe in got or don't belong to the church that really is no reason to not stand or do the pledge. Even people from other countries stand for our pledge when we do it. I have no problem for atheists or people that don't belong to religion but are open to it, I just feel that two words shouldn't keep you from doing something that has been done since the beginning of our country. At the beginning when the U.S. was created they gave you the right of religion and the idea of god in our pledge or on our bills wasn't meant to be apposing it was there just to say that our country was made for good, justice and mabey that we were just plain lucky. In any case I do not believe that two words should keep people from the pledge but since it is free will I guess they have their own judgment over the matter.

Are we learning what we need?

For this blog i read A Fundamental Disconnection?
This was a very interesting blog and it really made me think about the future in store for us. The topic about this was what we are learning in high school compared to college, and how we Arne’t learning the way we should how we are covering to many topics. This actually made a lot of sense to me, during my time during school. More noticeable in math, that we go through different topics almost three times a week and its kinda bad. Although we do go through a lot of topics and learn a lot during the year we don't spend enough time to get any of it really stuck in our heads so we are less prepared for the finals or CSAP. This way of teaching was probably taught to the teachers while they went to get their degrees in college, as opposed to the ones that went to get the college degrees. The blog really made me think about how we might learn different in college but i think because we have been through learning all of our lives that it wont be different enough to make it much harder, and who knows by 2011 when we graduate from high school we might only learn from videos or the computer.

local news

For this blog i read Boy, 7, who starved to death has no headstone. Rocky mountain news.
This story i had kind of mixed feelings the entire time i was reading through it. What happened was the kid was stuck with his stepdad who starved him to death, both the mom and step dad are being charged with murder. This story was very sad and i cant belive any one could do that to another human being. The fact that they would starve him instead of giving it to the biological father really makes me mad and I do belive they should be punished to the full extent of the law. This was a well written article even if it was over a very sad story.

education

For my education blog i read is it ok to be a techologically illiterate teacher? On the fischbowl.

To be truthful i actually found this one to be funny but it still brought up some thoughtfulness in me. This blog was more about critisizm about teachers trying to teach without technology which is a basic part of daily life. It made me wonder about teachers that might have to teach how to use some of the technology today and not know how to use it themselfs. Although I dont think I have put quite as much thought into the topic as he did it is quite an intresting question and might raise quite a few intresting ideas of the future. In this blog it also stated some things about socially acceptable like not being able to do math is socially acceptable but not being able to read isn't, the thought that technology could fit into that factor is kinda strange. I never considered computer use or cell phone use that important in daily life. Well even though this blog over education made me think a lot and somewhat confuse me it's an intresting topic even though I think it was meant more towards criticizm.
